In the late '60s, Zenith was at the cutting edge of modern sports watches. From their 3019-based automatic El Primeros, to keyhole-case dress watches like the A6620, and this - the Super Sub Sea diver.
The present example, ref. A3635, is one of eight other dive watches Zenith was producing at the time, ranging the 50m A3634 to the mighty Defy Diver A3648. The A3635 features a unique 40mm square cushion shaped case and a wonderful slate grey dial. The rotating diving bezel locates inside the rehaut and is operated by the 10 o'clock crown, whilst the bracelet was made by no other than Gay Freres.
The was remains in fantastic condition after 50+ years - the case is very sharp, and the original full link bracelet with Zenith clasp (dated 69) has minimal stretch. The dial shows a striking patina to a coppery grey hue, whilst the orange hands show extensive fading. The watch came to us in perfect health, running at +3 s/d, 280 amps, with a beat error of 0.2 ms.
