The 168000 is somewhat of an enigma, it's a watch that most enthusiasts have only stumbled upon after years of collecting. Our Founder openly admits when he first laid eyes on one, he thought the collector had made a typo. The 168000 was the first watch to be made in 904L steel, this is actually the only differentiating factor between the 168000 and the 16800.
After only nine months of production, Rolex introduced another new reference, the 16610, which had an upgraded movement. The 168000 was then retired to the history books. Rolex took a twelve year hiatus before they used a six digit reference again, making this the first reference to have that honour.
This example is in exceptional condition; the dial has gained a gentle patina, and the tritium markers and hands have aged to an even, creamy colour. The case is extremely full and the insert has aged extensively to a "ghost" grey/blue colour. The original bracelet is one link short but will accommodate a 19.5cm wrist. The clasp is a later service replacement.
The movement is running superbly at +4 s/d, 295 amps with a beat error of 0. The watch comes with its original guarantee. The 168000 is truly an anomaly in the Submariner lineup - if you know, you know.
