The 16800 is, within the Submariner range, the true crossroads between the old and the new. It blends a vintage aesthetic with the modern conveniences we now expect—and sometimes take for granted—in a contemporary Sub. The unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal, and quick-set date were all new features when this reference was released in 1979. This cocktail of upgrades drove a surge in popularity and paved the way for the Submariner to become not just a professional tool watch, but the go-to dive watch for everyday wearers.
This example dates to 1985 and features a gloss dial. The tritium markers and hands have developed a gentle cream patina. The case has been polished in the past but remains full, with only light marks throughout. The original J-code bracelet (1985) is one link short and shows minimal stretch.
The watch comes with its original guarantee and sales tag with serial.
Fresh from service, the movement runs at 0 s/d, 285 amps, with no beat error. A super-cool neo-vintage Sub, ready for its new home.
