The 5513 lineup of the Submariner is probably the most iconic, and also produced the most variations during its 25 year production run.
This example sits in the latter end of the very short gilt dial period, estimates suggest Gilt dials make up about 4% of all 5513 /5512’s made. This is the T-25, non-chapter ring version that came a few years before the dials changed to matte. The dial, bezel, hands and crown (no dots) are all original, the bracelet is a period correct US hollow rivet with 65 end links, the clasp is dated 3/69. The bezel insert is a MkII long 5 with a lovely blue/grey hue and a coloured pip still in place. The ghosting on the bezel gives a splendid contrast against the Gilt dial. The watch also retains its original box
Gilt dialled Submariners are becoming increasingly hard to find, with full sets reaching well above the 30-thousand mark, which makes this an extremely well-priced example and is truly one of the greatest expressions of the Rolex Submariner. A watch to be worn and enjoyed.
