The Rolex 16660 Sea-Dweller, is a testament to Rolex's long-standing legacy of creating pieces that marry superior craftsmanship with technical mastery.
This model, the 16660, was a game-changer when it was first introduced in 1978. Inheriting the spirit of exploration from its forebears, this 'Triple Six' Sea-Dweller offered something new: it plunged deeper, with an improved water-resistance rating of 1220 meters, thanks to its robust case design, enhanced helium escape valve, and a sapphire crystal replacing the previous acrylic one.
The model we present to you is from 1983, the star of the show is undoubtedly the slightly faded blue bezel, which has adopted a charismatic patina over the years. The subtle, faded blue hues imbue the watch with a charming vintage appeal that sets it apart from most of its counterparts. This intriguing touch of colour elegantly frames the classic black matte dial, adorned with creamy tritium markers and hands.
The watch is powered by the Caliber 3035, featuring a quickset date function. Encasing this engine is the Oyster case, crafted from corrosion-resistant 316L stainless steel that Rolex is known for. Paired with a matching Oyster bracelet, the watch provides a secure and comfortable fit, be it on a diving suit or a under shirt sleeve.
This particular example comes as a wonderful full-set, and is one of the more unique and charming examples on the market today and would make an excellent addition to a collection, or as a 40th birthday present!
