The Sea-Dweller is to this day, the only sports Rolex that was born out of necessity. Unlike the Milsub which was effectively an altered 5513, the Sea-Dweller was created because the state-of-the-art dive model Rolex had to offer just wasn't up to the ever-changing sub-sea landscape.
The 1665 reference was produced from 1967 to 1983 (although they were only sold to civilians from around 1971). Until 1977, they are affectionately named "Double Red Sea Dwellers" thanks to the red texts.
The present example, dating back to 1979, is the penultimate member of the 1665 family, a MK3 "Great White". The watch remains in its all original form bar the clasp that was changed in 1984. The dial and bezel are the star of the show here; the markers and hands have a deep cream colour and the MK3 bezel has formed a subtle blue hue giving this piece a unique look. The case shows signs of polishing but is strong and has no pin poke. The 93150/580 bracelet is in great condition and has its full links. The watch will accommodate a 20cm wrist. The super dome glass and correct brushed silver date wheel still remain.
The movement came to us in great health, its running at +6, 255 amps, with a beat error of 0.2. We absolutely love 1665s here are Fathom, and this is another example that we are proud to offer.
