The ‘Great White’ version of the Sea-Dweller 1665, when unveiled, offered one noticeable modification compared to its predecessors: the addition of the conspicuous white 'Sea-Dweller' script on the dial, an attribute that earned the watch its 'Great White' moniker.
The MK3 variation is the penultimate member of the 1665. Starting around 6m serial to 6.8m (79 - 81).
This example from 79 still remains in its original form bar the clasp that was changed in 1984. The dial and bezel are the star of the show here, the markers and hands have a deep cream colour and the mk3 bezel has formed a subtle blue hue giving this piece a unique look. The case shows signs of polishing but is strong and has no pin poke. The 93150/580 bracelet is in great condition and has its full links. The watch will accommodate a 20cm wrist. The super dome glass and correct brushed silver date wheel still remain.
The movement came to us in great health, its running at +6, 255 amps with a beat error of 0.2.
In the realm of Rolex, few models rival the desirability of the 'Great White' - a watch that, over the years, has acquired an aura of fascination and reverence among collectors and enthusiasts. It's a watch that epitomises the time when Rolex were pushing exploration-focused watches, a part of their lineage that continues to inspire their present and future endeavours.
