“Oyster” and “Perpetual” are perhaps the two most important logotypes for Rolex, second only to the brand name itself — and incidentally linked to two of its most significant horological contributions.
In 1926, Rolex introduced the Oyster case — a groundbreaking design that used a screw-down crown, bezel, and caseback to create a hermetically sealed wristwatch. Five years later, the brand unveiled the Perpetual rotor, laying the foundation for the automatic movement as we know it today.
The Oyster Perpetual line remained a mainstay in the Rolex catalog for decades, often serving as the brand’s entry-level, time-only offering. What we have here, however, is something a bit more special. The ref. 6567 features a 34mm solid 18k yellow gold case, lending a dressier, more elevated character to the traditionally utilitarian Oyster Perpetual DNA.
This particular example is fitted with the less commonly seen black dial — and what a watch it is. The radium lume, as confirmed by Geiger, has aged beautifully, while the once-glossy surface of the dial has taken on a gentle stardust patina, shimmering subtly under light, complemented by the gold hands and applied markers.
The case has seen only light polishing in the past and retains its elegant lines. The fluted bezel remains sharp, offering just the right amount of texture. The movement came to us in excellent condition: currently running at +4 s/d, 265 amplitude, with a 0.3 ms beat error.
There is no modern Rolex that wears quite like this — slim, understated, and utterly charming. An absolute dream on the wrist.
