The GMT Master is one of the world’s most iconic watch designs, originally designed for airline pilots, it now adorns the wrists of many. The 1675 reference we have here was originally produced in 1959 and was kept in production until 1980.

Rolex made many changes to this reference, everything from the movement, dials from gloss to matte and even the bezel design. It’s a minefield.

This particular example dates to 1966 and house the correct 1575 cal movement (stamped 1560) made from 1965 onwards, it has the correct type c non chapter ring gilt dial with tritium markers that have aged beautifully, its started to tropicalise as you can see from the photos. The hands are also original and match the dial.. The red back bezel is tremendous, the blue has turned a bright aquamarine colour, the red has a stunning pink tinge to it, which, I’m sure you agree, works so well with the dial. The case has been polished at some point but is still super sharp as are the lugs, which show the bevelled edges.

The watch is paired an American jubilee bracelet from 1971 which compliments the watch beautifully.

Gilt dialled GMT’s, out of all the sports models from the 60’s, are now the hardest to find as original as this. Expect these to sharply rise in value as the availability of these watches dwindles with their current popularity.
