The GMT-Master is one of the world’s most iconic watch designs. Originally created for airline pilots, it now graces the wrists of collectors and enthusiasts alike. The GMT-Master began its life in 1954 with the ref. 6542, featuring a 38mm case and bakelite bezel. After a short four-year production run, Rolex introduced the 1675, which remained in production until 1980.
In 1981, Rolex released the ref. 16750 with an upgraded calibre 3075, which provided the watch with a quickset date function. A slightly thicker case was used to accommodate the new movement, which also offered improved water resistance. Early 16750 models featured matte dials similar to the 1675, before being replaced by gloss dials in 1984.
The present example, a gloss 16750, is in fantastic condition; the dial is flawless, and the dead tritium lume on the markers and hands has developed an even, creamy patina. The case has been polished previously but remains strong, with sharp bevels and thick crown guards. The blue portion of the original Pepsi insert has retained its vibrant colour, while the red portion has faded significantly to a coppery hue. It comes on the correct 62510H/550 jubilee bracelet, which is also in great condition. The clasp code 'D' dates back to 1979 which is slightly earlier than the watch.
The watch has been freshly serviced and is running perfectly at -2 s/d, 300 amps, with a 0.2ms beat error. It comes complete with its original boxes, booklets, tag, wallet, and original guarantee. A fantastic example of a "full set Pepsi GMT" that combines modern functionality with undeniable vintage charm, available at Fathom for (much) less than a modern BLRO.
