The GMT Master is one of the world’s most iconic watch designs. Originally created for airline pilots, it now graces the wrists of collectors and enthusiasts alike. The reference 1675 we have here was first produced in 1959 and remained in production until 1980.
Over its 20+ years of production, Rolex introduced numerous changes to the 1675, from the movement and case to the dials (transitioning from gilt to matte) and even the bezel design. These updates give 1675s from different eras distinct characters.
The present example, dating back to 1978, boasts the last matte production dial, the MKV. And what a watch this is; the original dead tritium lume on the markers and hands has aged to an even, creamy patina. The case is in incredible condition, with full lugs and crown guards. The original red back insert is also beautiful, with the red portion retaining its vivid colour, and the blue obtaining a light fade. The original brushed silver date wheel has also survived.
It comes on a 78360/580 bracelet in perfect condition. The "VE" clasp from 1980 is likely a later service replacement. We love matte dial 1675s here at Fathom, and this example is as good as any.
