The GMT Master is one of the world’s most iconic watch designs. Originally created for airline pilots, it now graces the wrists of collectors and enthusiasts alike. The reference 1675 we have here was first produced in 1959 and remained in production until 1980.

Over its 20+ years of production, Rolex introduced numerous changes to the 1675, from the movement and case to the dials (transitioning from gilt to matte) and even the bezel design. These updates give 1675s from different eras distinct characters.

The present example has the most well-known matte production dial, the MK1, nicknamed 'Long E' - easily recognised by the long middle bar in the letter E in ROLEX. This dial had a long production run and is seen from 67 to early 72 serials. The present example, dating back to 1968, is one of the last to have the thin case and one of the earlier examples of the flat waffle-like lume plots. The original tritium lume on the dial and hands have aged to an even creamy hue. There is some cracking on the lume on the GMT hand and the second hand, common for this era of tritium. The case is superb, with thick lugs and full crown guards.

The blue portion on the red back bezel has faded to a vibrant blue hue, whereas the red has turned into a gorgeous pink (although not a fuchsia). The date wheel is also correct with its hooked 7s and closed 6 and 9s. The bracelet is a 7836/280 stamped 71 and is in great shape. The bracelet will accommodate up to an 18.5cm wrist, additional folded links can be sourced and added if needed.

The movement came to us in good health and is running well at +5s/d, 260 amps with a beat error of 0.3. A great example of one of the most wearable watches ever created.
