The Rolex Explorer, long regarded as an under appreciated gem in the world of horology, has recently witnessed a renaissance in its stature. This once underestimated timepiece now commands considerable attention among watch enthusiasts, steadily securing its place as a coveted asset in discerning collections.
Among the various references, the Explorer II 16550 is particularly revered for its unique charm and rarity, amplifying its appeal among collectors. However, this surge in demand has subsequently driven an upward trajectory in the market price for pristine examples.
In our hands, we have a remarkable representation of the 16570 reference, an earlier variant that proudly showcases its tritium dial markers. Over time, these markers have developed a delightful cream and yellow patina, lending the timepiece the endearing moniker, "Chicchi Di Mais", which translates to Corn Kernels. This distinctive patination is becoming increasingly rare, particularly when coupled with a case as well preserved as this one.
The watch is delivered complete with its original box and paperwork. The bracelet, bearing its full links and stamped with 'S6', signifies its manufacture in June 1994.
