The Rolex Explorer II was, for a long time, an under-appreciated gem in the world of vintage Rolex collecting. That has changed in recent years, with early models such as the 1655 'Steve McQueen' and 16550 now commanding considerable attention amongst collectors, along with an ever-increasing price tag.
The 16550 was produced for only 4 years before the model we see here, the 16570, was introduced in 1989. The 16570 then had a healthy stint of 22 years of production before being replaced by the 42mm successor. During this time, Rolex went through many design changes on the dial, case, and bracelet constructions.
The present example, dating back to 2003, boasts a "Swiss Made" Super-Luminova dial and the updated no-hole. The previous owner enjoyed this watch for many years and really cared for it - the case is in great condition, with light marks, but has full lugs and crown guards. The dial is spotless, and the original 78790A bracelet with the original "AD" (2003) clasp is in equally great shape.
The watch came to us in great health, running at 0 s/d, 290 amps, with a 0.3 ms beat error. It comes complete with the original box, wallet, booklets, calendar, and the original guarantee. If you're looking for a good, honest Polar 16570, it really doesn't get much better than this.
