The Rolex Explorer range was first introduced in 1953, the same year Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay scaled Mount Everest for the first time, wearing a white Oyster Perpetual, which of course was no coincidence. The original 6350 reference featured a a 36mm case, and a black dial with Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9, a combination that still lives on today over 70 years later.
The 14270 reference was in production for 11 years, starting in 1989. The dial changed during that time, from blackout numbers to different lacquers and marker paints. The present example boasts a "Swiss" only dial, which appeared only in a short period between 1998 and 2000 where Rolex used Luminova on the hands and markers.
The watch itself is in great condition. The case has been polished in the past but is even. The original X stamped (99) 78790 bracelet still retains its full links and has minimal stretch. The original caseback sticker is still in place. The watch came to us in great health, running at +3 s/d, 325 amps, with 0.0 beat error.
The watch comes with its inner and outer box and guarantee papers.
