The Day-Date is Rolex’s flagship model, and arguably a rival to the Submariner for their most iconic. Worn by Movie stars, Royalty and Heads of State, the design has stood the test of time. This is an example of the third execution of the model - the 18238 - which featured an updated Calibre 3155 movement which was the first to have a double quick-set function, a feature that is still present on the current model. This small yet significant complication allows both the day, date and time to be set independently, with the crown at first position and rotated clockwise, anti-clockwise and finally in second position respectively.
The watch dates to 1994 and has been and appears to have led a sedentary life given its superb condition. Now benefitting from a recent service, it runs superbly; +5 s/d, 300 degrees of amplitude with a 0.0ms of beat error. The case is unpolished and the bracelet is very tight, retaining 21 links (one less than full) and the fluted bezel is nice and sharp.
The dial and hands remain in perfect condition and the day and date wheels have also faded perfectly. The original box, punched papers and booklet are still present.
