Any Patek Philippe is special, any constructed in Rose Gold more so, but perhaps even more special than this - a Grand Complication - and to be housed in a sublime 'Cushion' case is perhaps the brand at their very best.

Our founder is the first to admit a disdain for most modern references from the brand, we as vintage enthusiasts yearn more for a characterful look, nuanced details to enjoy, a watch with story or out-of-the-box designs - yet for us - this reference ticks all of those rounded-corner boxes perfectly. While the dial of this watch - which features Breguet numerals, rose gold hands and superb typography throughout - is truly a sight to behold, we found ourselves staring equally in awe at the reverse. A sapphire display back puts the micro-rotor toting calibre 240 Q front and centre, and is truly Patek Philippe finishing and mechanical architecture at its best.

The history of the Grand Complication is an interesting one; first and most notably completed by Breguet at the request of the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, the Pocket Watch No.160 featured 23 complications - in 1827! Patek Philippe however, took a sluggish 71 more years to develop their first - the 'Palmer Grand Complication.'

The industry agreed definition describes any feature to a timepiece outside of the display of hours, minutes and second - the 5940R takes this a little further. Offering the viewer indicators for Hour, Minute, Day, Date, Month, Leap Year and Moonphase which earns this not just a Grand Complication status, but puts it into the upper echelons of haute-horology; the Perpetual Calendar.

With such complexities housed within, you'd be forgiven for assuming the case sits on the higher-end of what could be considered dressy, it doesn't. The Calibre 240 Q is to thank, a marvel at 37mm in diameter, it houses all of the necessary complications, a 48-hour power reserve and its 27 gorgeous jewels at a needlelike depth of only 3.88mm.

This example is offered with a Patek Philippe box, watch slip and an alternate black Alligator strap.
