Established in 1853 and maintaining production almost continuously since then, Tissot stands as one of the oldest watchmakers still in existence. Its long history is rich with wristwatches that have become prized collectibles. For many enthusiasts, the pinnacle of Tissot's legacy came in the mid-20th century, following its merger with Omega and Lemania to create the Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère (SSIH). This collaboration endured until 1983, when SSIH and other watch brands were integrated into the Swatch Group.
In the 1930s through the 1950s, Omega and Tissot produced several co-branded watches. These timepieces now offer significant brand prestige and excellent value for collectors today.
Powered by the infamous 15TL (cal 33.3) Lemania based movement, that was the first chronograph movement used by Tissot and Omega. This movement formed the basis for the legendary cal 321 that followed in the late 50's. The cal 33.3 however was made in far less numbers and are rarely seen in the wild today.
This example retains its original snail 'Tachy-Telemeter' dial with radium coated arabic numerals. The lozenge hands are also filled with radium as confirmed by the geiger counter. Another rarity that this watch possesses is its case size. At 37mm, this was considered a 'jumbo' size in the 30's, fast forward 80 years, its now considered a moderate size.
The movement has just been serviced and has been manually regulated. When wearing the watch keeps exceptional time for a movement of this age. The watch has its original fixed lug bars attached so we have paired it a vintage fixo flex strap but a leather or nato can be provided also.
