As lovers of vintage watches, we all cherish those "look closer" moments—when someone notices what appears to be a "common" watch, unaware that it is, in fact, something special. The present example, the Omega Ref. 2400-7 "Suverän", is one of them.
At first glance, this may seem like "just" an elegant, time-only Omega, featuring a 35mm stainless steel case and a black gilt dial. However, the caseback engraving tells a different story—the Suverän (Swedish for Sovereign) was commissioned by the Swedish government during WWII as a robust, utilitarian watch for both military and civilian use. This model was produced for only about a year, between 1943 and 1944.
Though born in a time of unrest, this watch has seemingly defied time, remaining as elegant as ever after 80 years. The case is in fantastic condition, and so is the radium black dial. Its reliable 30T2 movement is in excellent health, running at +3 s/d, 230 amps, with a 0.4 ms beat error. This Scandinavian Omega is ready for its next home.
