A true exercise in subtle, understated watch design this Omega Seamaster is not. With a 41mm tonneau case, colourful dial and bezel, this "Soccer Time' as its affectionally known really does embrace the 70's design language.

For the 1970 FIFA Mexico World Cup, Omega decided to produce a chronograph to time football matches, referees were given them by Omega to use to time matches. They of course were publicly available and came in a few different designs. This grey variant with an internally rotating gmt bezel was the earliest with the white dial coming a year later and with a different model number.

This piece has come to us in immaculate condition, the dial and hands retain their original colours and the case its radial satin finish. This watch has seen minimal wear over the last 56 years, the bracelet also remains in superb health with a small amount of sag. It will accommodate a 19.5cm wrist.

The movement is identical to the Speedmaster of the era - the calibre 861 - the subtle difference with these Seamaster chrono models is the sub dials and the bezel. The right hand sub dial is used to time each half of a football match, the white curved line is then used as a 5 minute countdown to the 45 minutes. The internal bezel is a GMT bezel, you put the am/pm counter you want at the hour hand location, from then it will point to the time of your other location.

The movement has recently been serviced and is running at a stella +2 s/d, 290 amps with a beat error of 0.2.

The original papers are still with the watch, showing its sale in 1975 in South America.
