Originally founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun in Le Locle, Doxa began as a traditional watchmaker. However, it was in the mid-20th century that the brand truly made its mark in the world of dive watches with models like the Sub 300. These watches not only featured bold and daring designs ahead of their time but also incorporated innovations such as helium escape valves and uni-directional bezels—features that were later adopted by industry giants like Rolex and Omega.
Doxa fell on hard times during the quartz crisis, but the brand was fortunately revived in recent years, gaining a cult following for its faithful reissues of iconic models (some of the few modern watches we like here at Fathom).
What we have here, however, is something a bit more special: An ‘Aubry-Era’ Sub 600T. Aubry Freres acquired Doxa in 1978 from the Swatch Group and exclusively retailed the brand for around ten years. While Doxa discontinued the iconic Sub 300T in the mid-1970s, they continued producing dive watches for another decade, including the Sub 600T and 750T. The Sub 600T maintained the Non-Decompression bezel but introduced aluminum inserts and a squarer case design compared to the tonneau-shaped 300T.
‘Aubry-Era’ 600Ts are incredibly hard to find, especially in well-preserved condition, as many were used for purpose. The present example is as rare as hen’s teeth—it remains in NOS condition and has never been worn. This 'Sharkhunter' variant features a black dial with beautifully aged tritium markers and hands, which have developed a lovely creamy patina. The distinctively angular case retains all of its original chamfers, looking just as sharp as the day it left the factory.
It comes complete with its original box, booklet, and guarantee from ‘Aubry of Switzerland.’ The watch has been thoroughly checked and is running perfectly at +8 s/d, 323 amplitude, with 0 beat error. This is a true time capsule and undoubtedly one of the coolest watches we have for sale.
