Cabot Watch Company (CWC) was founded in 1972 by Ray Mellor with the sole intention of supplying watches to the British military and government organisations. It was bought by Silvermans in 1997, and still supplies dive watches to the British military today.

This is the first time we have had a full collection to sell at Fathom, and what a collection it is. You are seeing a labour of love, spanning over ten years of work and presented in a bespoke fitted NATO Pelicase; Twelve CWC's starting from 1981 through to 1997 including the actual test watch CWC used in 1982 with accompanying dive log.

THE TIMELINE

1981 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

Sterile case back. Correct large CWC logo dial and Lumed acrylic bezel. 2872 ETA movement. 100 of these produced.

CWC 1982 ROYAL NAVY DIVER

The watch is the same as the 1981 but with a caseback stamped on the outside with Nato stock number only. This watch was used by CWC in 1982 as a test watch which helped develop the model into using a quartz movement. The actual dive log accompanies the watch.

1983 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

The first quartz variant of the Royal Navy Diver, The dial displays the new cwc logo and larger T symbol. The bezel insert remains acrylic with luminous numerals.

1984 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

The Hong Kong Special; A 'CWC' but not made by CWC, this watch is well documented by CWC Addict. The story is said to be that a British military unit based in Hong Kong were supplied these watches, the company who supplied them was Dodane. It seems they have reused old CWC dials and put them in their cases. The full story might never surface, but one thing is for sure, they are special.

1985 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

Identical to the 1983 bar the insert, these have a more orange tint to the markers and numerals. The numbers are luminous. 350 of these issued.

1992 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

The first year for the CWC Divers and SBS Divers to have a metal bezel insert. The insert on this one has the wide hashes only seen in 92. The quartz movement has also been updated to a ETA 955.122 7J. Around 250/300 issued

1992 CWC SBS DIVER

The second SBS Diver issued after the original and scarcely seen 1988. The first SBS Diver to have the metal bezel insert and the only with wide hashes along with the 92 RND. All are PVD coated with the day and date display. All SBS Divers have a specific NATO stock number. 150 issued

1993 CWC SBS DIVER

Same as the 92 SBS Diver other than the metal insert now has narrow hash markings. 100 issued

1994 CWC SBS DIVER

Identical to the 93 SBS Diver bar the year of issue. 300 issued

1994 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

Same as the 92 RN Diver other than the metal insert now has narrow hash markings. Between 300 and 500 issued.

1995 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

Identical to the 94 RN Diver other than the year of issue. Between 300 and 500 issued.

1997 CWC ROYAL NAVY DIVER

Identical to the 95 RN Diver other than the year of issue. Between 300 and 500 issued.
