The Cartier Santos Galbèe is a timepiece steeped in legend. First gracing the world in 1987, its inspiration can be traced back to 1904, when Cartier crafted the original Santos for the renowned Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos-Dumont. The Galbèe moved away from the boxy, straight case and became curved, fitting the wrist perfectly.
The majority of Galbèe's were powered by quartz movements, such as this one, a few select variants came in automatic. The design remained untouched for 18 years until Cartier released the now commonly seen XL model, stretching the model size to 32x45mm.
This example has a wonderful cream dial, originally it would have been white but due to sun exposure its aged to a light cream. The case is in great condition, The case looks unpolished as does the bezel. The bracelet has 22 links and will fit a 17cm wrist. The original box and papers have survived.
These watches are extremely versatile, perfect for a daily wearer or a more sophisticated occasion, it's probably why the Santos range still remains so popular.
