The Breguet family completely revolutionised not only watchmaking but aviation too. Most will know Breguet for their invention of the Tourbillon but it’s their exploits in aviation that amaze us the most. Louis-Charles Breguet, the Great Great Grandson of Abraham Louis and the original founder, teamed up with his brother Jacques and invented the Gyroplane, a predecessor to the modern Helicopter. Breguet produced precision instruments and watches for various military organisations including the Navy's and Fleet Air Arms. In 1990 as a tribute to this long standing tradition of supplying watches to the Navy, Breguet created a whole new line of sportier watches called the Marine.
The 3400 packs a punch in Platinum, weighing 96g with deployment, it has presence on the wrist even at 35.5mm. For comparison, a 42mm Stainless Steel Speedmaster on a leather comes in at a mere 74g. Its slender too, thanks to its JLC 899/1 movement, its sits just under 8mm above your wrist.
The Marine really nails the daily but dressy look with its Torpedo crown offsetting the stunning Guilloché dial, the strap pairing also makes a big difference. On a tanned calfskin leather like this, it tones the watch down, however we are happy to supply on a different strap at the request of the buyer.
The watch has been serviced in the last few years and its still keeping great time. +6 per day and 270 amps.
We cant think of many Platinum watches that come under 10k these days, certainly not with the prestige and beauty of this Breguet. A real stealth piece.
