It's no secret that Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet completely transformed Blancpain after they acquired it in 1981. Over the following decade, they produced some of the most extraordinary watches under the Blancpain name, which would come to be known as the Six Masterpieces. From ultra-thin perpetual calendars to flying tourbillons, they redefined the brand, culminating in a buyout by The Swatch Group in 1992.
The initial post-buyout period still saw the creation of remarkable references, hearkening back to the Biver-Piguet era, with this 1151 being a prime example. It features the dial and case design reminiscent of the earlier ultra-thin 0071 masterpiece, yet at a more accessible price point.
This watch is presented with its original strap and buckle, complemented by a new leather strap and a Beads of Rice bracelet from Forstner, which we believe looks stunning. It includes its original box and papers, and has been recently serviced (February 24), ensuring it runs impeccably—0 seconds per day, 330 amplitude, and 0.1 beat error.
For those seeking an affordable daily or dress watch with substance, this should undoubtedly be on your list. It’s superb.
